Don’t give Yourself a Hard Time!
So … we are already into February and if you are anything like me it feels like January has come and gone in a blink. Have you had time to ponder life – direction, work goals, your wellbeing, what it is you’d like to create or achieve this year? I know I haven’t!
For many in Australia, January means a break from the usual work routine. For me this year, it was filled with time well spent with daughters visiting from overseas – rightfully making them my priority, enjoying the beach, friends, food and activities with them – generally soaking up as much of them as possible before their immanent departure. Now they are gone and life is taking on a more usual routine, I am aware I haven’t done those New Year resolutions!
It’s Never Too Late to Tune In and Set Your Highest Intentions
So …. is it too late? It doesn’t matters when you start setting intentions for your life. The beginning of the year seems appropriate – but it really doesn’t matter. What does matter is that you give yourself time and space to tune in – to connect with that part of you that seems higher and wiser in yourself. Each of us has it – every single one of us.
Find What Works for You to get You in the Zone
Finding what works for you to enable you to connect with the highest in you is important. You may find it is when you are walking out in nature, when you are meditating, when you are exercising, when you are being creative – painting, cooking, gardening – most likely a time when you are alone and focused – a time when you can get in the zone – when ideas and inspirations and imaginings can happen.
Warning Alert!
When you are distracted, anxious, fearful, stressed, feeling disconnected, exhausted – it is near impossible to get in the zone. Realising this may be enough to inspire you to put more focus into your own personal wellbeing – doing those things that nurture and care for your body – exercise, eating a healthy, well-balanced diet, getting enough sleep, engaging in activities that feed your soul.
Questions to Ask Yourself
We have all heard the saying ‘money doesn’t buy you happiness’. Sure money is nice and having beautiful material objects is nice – but does it give your life meaning, purpose and fulfilment? Having a vision for yourself that centres solely on getting more money and/or material objects is not what is going to bring you happiness. When you do find yourself in that centred space ask yourself the big questions!
- What is it that I really want?
- Who am I?
- What are my deep desires, passions, longings?
- What is my purpose?
Working on answering these questions will move you in a more meaningful direction.
Creating a Higher Vision for Yourself
When you tune in to this – you may realise that you are longing for a:
- Greater connection with your partner, children, friends and fellow human beings
- Greater sense of peace, love, compassion, self acceptance, joy, freedom of expression, creativity, etc.
- Greater sense that you are living with purpose
Making It Happen
Once clear on this higher vision – it is important to set yourself daily intentions that revolve around bringing these into your life. A good time to do this is in your morning meditation. It can be helpful to create a vision board – a board that externalises and displays images, symbols and words that represent this higher vision for yourself.
And remember to Trust. We are always a work in progress!
