The differences in our individual biochemistry are being highlighted by this COVID 19 virus. Some who test positive have no symptoms or any awareness of having it. Some have varying degrees of symptoms, from mild to more serious. Some get very sick. Most recover. Some – very unfortunately do not survive it. Humans leave this life due to many, many things. So … how do we give ourselves the best chance to fight off this bug, or any bug for that matter?
Taking responsibility for our own health couldn’t be more important than in the current climate. There are the obvious – and very important things we can all do to maximise our health:
- Eating nutritious food – a balanced diet that works for you. Some of us seem to need a bit of red meat, others are better off on a more vegetarian diet, some need to be gluten free, etc. Whatever suits you best, aim for fresh, natural produce with minimal processed foods.
- Exercise – regular exercise that works for you – are you a walker, runner, swimmer, bike rider, surfer, yoga person, weights etc?
- Mental Health – Do something that helps you keep your calm and centre that works for you – whether that be meditation, playing an instrument, listening to music, dancing, writing, making art/crafts, gardening, etc.
- Immune Booster – knowing what works for you to fight off a bug when you feel like your’e coming down with something. Most of us can feel something coming on. Our body gives us tell tale signs – swollen glands, tiredness, headache, body aches, a tickle in the throat etc. The quicker you get onto boosting your immune system to help fight it, the better.
I’m putting it out there for people to share what works for them. For me, the moment I feel any symptoms I chop up a clove of garlic into tiny pieces and swallow it with water like I would a pill. I also take a large dose of Vitamin C (1000mg pill). I do this before going to bed and aim to get a good nights sleep and 99% of the time I am symptom free the next day.
What do you do that helps you give your immune system a boost when it needs it?
If you haven’t worked it out yet – you may like to try some of the ideas that come up here. One things for sure, given we are all different – you have to find out what works best for YOU.
